Post Numero Uno

So this is a tiny experimental project thing I just recently thought of. I started a piece for my fourth year art critique (which is Thursday afternoon) and I have been taking progress pictures of the piece as I work on it. I thought it would be cool if I uploaded the progress images to this blog and kept track of the step by step process of how the piece is being built. The work is a mixed media piece on canvas, the dimensions are 6' x 4' and I built the canvas by hand (with help of course).
If I like how this project works I might just do the same thing for the next piece I create... if any. :P

So here goes. I worked on the piece for about 6 hours today and came home with 6 photos. So lets say I took a photo every hour for simplicity's sake.

Photo 1:
Beautiful white canvas with nothing on it. Kinda my favourite stage... I haven't made any mistakes on it yet!

Photo 2:
I've placed a few squares of knitting on the canvas. I didn't want to ruin the squares by gluing them on in case I wanted to reuse them so I sewed them on. Getting the needle through that primed canvas was a bitch and a half.

Photo 3:
Began painting the swatch on the bottom. I'm kinda random with my art. I don't like to work on one part for too long so I move around a lot. Gives me time to think on the other parts for a bit longer.

Photo 4:
Swatch completed. I don't know what else I'm going to do with it. Any suggestions?

Photo 5:
Added more knitted squares. Started putting them on in a different order so they didn't overlap like scales. I also took off the green square and decided not to use that colour knitted square because it really disagreed with the green at the bottom.

Photo 6:
Thats as many squares as I got put on today. Not sure if I will put more on or not, maybe buff it up a bit? Thoughts?

I realized as I was writing this that this blog is also a means for me to get feedback on my art as I make it. Not sure how much feedback I will get but we shall see.

Till next time!
